Julep Cushion Complexion review

Makeup Reviews, Reviews

Ciao!

I bought this the day it launched which is something I’ve never done before. I’d been so excited about this from when I first saw it teased back in November. I love how Julep used online surveys of what women are looking for in a foundation and what shades women were looking for. As far as I know, no other brand does this and I find it super helpful that Julep does.

I was so impressed with how I was able to pick my perfect foundation shade on my first try using only their resources online. The thing that was so different then the swatches other brands provide was that Julep had women matched to each shade. So instead of looking at a pure swatch and wondering how that would match my skin, I found it much easier to look at a woman and say “I’m darker than her,” or “I’m lighter than her.” This is only available here on the Julep website, not on Ulta.

After I purchased my perfect shade (120 Linen) and used it for a few months, I was sent some PR from julep including a few things from their new complexion collection. That means that I have a fair amount of shades from this line that I wouldn’t have purchased simply because they don’t match my skin. As always, all opinions are my own and for clarification, this post is not sponsored.

Gone swatching: Glossier boy brow

Gone swatching

Ciao!

I was recently at the Glossier HQ in New York which was incredibly cool. It was an amazing experience to have, the coolest part being that I got to swatch and photograph every single thing they sell (which means you should expect a ton of posts with all of the glossier products). This post will be about one of their best selling items: the boy brow.

I was super excited about this except for one catch: would the brown be too dark? I’d seen varying images on social media about how strong it is so I was unsure.

As far as brows go, I’ve only used two brow products in my life (besides, horror of horrors, a shimmery eyeshadow), which was the Julep Don’t Leave Your Brows at Home and the Benefit brow gel. The Benefit brow gel left my brows crust and shiny in an unnatural way and the Julep pomade was both bad and way too warm for me.

So with that being said, I went into this experience excited, but a little hesitant. Would it be like the Benefit gel? Would the color match my brows? What was in store for me inside the Glossier Showroom?

My favorite lipsticks

Blog, Favorites

Ciao!

In honor of national lipstick day, I’ve compiled a list of my top lipsticks of all time. All of these will be either traditional bullet lipsticks or liquid lipsticks and I’ll include lip swatches for each one.

This list goes from #7 on the list to #1 with two honorable mentions. Keep in mind that all of these are favorites and it was very hard to put them in an order!

Test drive: Glossier priming moisturizer

Reviews, Test Drive

Ciao!

So a few weeks ago, I tested out the priming moisturizer by Glossier because I received a sample of it with my most recent glossier post.

However, as I sat down to write this post, I realized I didn’t have my camera with me that had all of my photos on it for this post.

Nice job me.

Luckily I had written down some notes about what I thought, so I was still able to write the review, but this post is a few weeks later than I expected. Keep reading to hear my thoughts on yet another product from this super hyped brand!

Gone swatching: Urban Decay Naked Heat palette

Blog, Gone swatching

Ciao!

I recently did a dupes post on this here, but I though I should share the swatches I did of this palette at a Sephora recently. I’m actually in New York right now and I’ve been doing a ton of swatches from Glossier, Bite Beauty, and Sephora, so I’ll be posting those soon!

I read the review from The Anna Edit and I wasn’t interested in buying because with her review she seemed a little underwhelmed with the palette. She either disliked or wasn’t going to use 7 of the shades which is over half the palette. She wasn’t thrilled with some of the formulas and thought the colors were too bold. So for me, that cut through the hype and I decided against buying it. You can read her review here if you’re interested.

Then, I swatched it myself, and was surprised with it. I love the quality of this, and I actually really like the colors. Like a lot more than I thought I would. I like Urban Decay matte shadows, and these are no different, thought they feel more blendable then the shades from the Naked 3 palette.

This is part one of two posts: the second will discuss the other part of the Naked Heat collection including the eyeliners and lipsticks.

Gone swatching: RMS luminizers

Blog, Gone swatching

Ciao!

Today I’ll be sharing some swatches of the RMS luminizers, including the living luminizer, magic luminizer, and the master mixer.

I’ve recently reviewed the living luminizer here, and I’ve everything about it. For more of my thoughts on the formula, click the link above to see the full review.

I want to start out by mentioning how much I love the packaging for the RMS products. They’re all so elegant with the white screw tops and frosted glass bottoms.

For now, keep reading to view the swatches of the various hyped highlights RMS offers!

Test drive: Sephora birthday gift

Reviews, Test Drive

Ciao!

Welcome to Test Drive, where I’ll be reviewing free samples, gift with purchases, or other forms of smaller makeup products. First up is this birthday gift available for Beauty Insiders, VIB’s, and VIB Rouges at Sephora. There are three available gifts, but I picked the makeup option from Tarte cosmetics.

First, I’m sorry to say that this is the only makeup option and it’s clearly directed at people with fair skin. It’s a light blush and a light liquid lipstick that clearly won’t work for anyone darker than a light-medium skin tone. I hope Sephora realizes this and makes two offering for makeup or a more adjustable option like a red lipstick and deeper blush that can be more universal.

I love Tarte and they’re one of my favorite brands, so I was excited when I saw this. Let’s take a look!

The matchup: Purple monochromatic makeup

Blog, The Matchup

Ciao!

Unlike my last post that featured mauve makeup, this will be showcasing a more purple-grey look. In this post, I’ll be using the following thing:

  • The shades pearlthistle, and nightingale from the Julep flights of fancy palette in Solstice
  • The Urban Decay primer potion in original
  • The Kiko Milano smart eyeshadow in 08
  • The Julep gel eyeliner in radiant amethyst
  • The Bite Beauty amuse bouche lipstick in cava

Keep reading to learn how to get what I call a “sunset” look. The latest trend is also called sunset eyes (see a great tutorial here) but it draws inspiration from a sunrise. The shades used include hot pink, red, orange, and yellow, shades you see in the morning. My look is more subtle, drawing colors from a sunset- dusty blue and greyish purple.

7 dupes for the Naked Heat palette

Blog, The dupe test

Ciao!

So the Naked Heat palette came out in the middle of June and naturally people freaked out. It was the first Naked palette in 2 years, and they hype was crazy for it. I really wanted it at first. Then I read this post from the Anti Haul blog that cut through all the noise and I decided I didn’t need it…right now.

I was however interested in the colors featured in the palette. Would warm bronzes look good on me? Would I like them? Is this a trend I want to follow?

I wasn’t sure, so I decided to look through my collection for similar shades and look a little online for some close dupes.

A quick note about this post: none of these are exactly the same as the Naked Heat as I do not own it and have not swatched. I also don’t own most of the dupes I’m suggesting. However, if you’re looking to try similar shades at a lower price, this is a good post for you. For comparison swatches, I’m using this post by The Anna Edit.

Kiko Milano Mini Divas baked eyeshadow review

Makeup Reviews, Reviews

Ciao!

I recently did a whole post on the Kiko Milano mini divas collection here, and I didn’t have a lot of positive takeaways. The short reason is that I felt the entire collection as a whole was overpriced for what it was, especially this eyeshadow, and you can read that post for my explanation as to why.

So you might be thinking this:

“Okay, it’s overpriced. So what? It’s a capsule collection, of course it’ll be more expensive. Why shouldn’t I get this anyways?”

Here’s why: the quality is clearly lacking in this eyeshadow. Don’t make the same mistake as me.
