I never wear bold lipsticks on an everyday basis. My idea of a bold everyday lipstick is like a dark brown. Seriously.
But in the summer? I love wearing super bright shades, deeper shades, and all of the unwearable shades in my collection. Part of the reason is I don’t always want to put on a full face of makeup in the summer, so all I have to do is swipe on a bright lipstick (and maybe some mascara) and my face instantly looks more made up.
I also consider bright lipsticks to be my “confidence colors” or the colors I instantly feel better in. I love nude lipsticks, but nothing can ever replace the feeling of applying a shocking bright pink.
Read on to see my ultimate summer shades!
The shades above (from left to right) are the Antipodes lipstick in Remarkably red, Julep It’s Whipped in Amore, Kiko Milano Velvet Passion in 303, Julep It’s balm in Flamingo pink, Burberry Full Kisses in Lilac, and Julep Lip Gloss in Posh.
Let’s check it out!
1. Antipodes lipstick in Remarkably Red
If you had told me how much I would love this lipstick when I bought it, I wouldn’t have believed you. I bought this in New Zealand when I was there this April. All of the makeup there was so expensive because of extremely high import costs, so I didn’t buy anything.
Except for this, because it’s a New Zealand brand so it was cheaper to buy it there. They specialize in skincare, but I was most interested in the line of all natural lipsticks.
I adore this lipstick. It’s not a full on red, but it’s the perfect lipstick for when I go out to dinner and want something a little darker than what I normally wear. It has a matte finish that doesn’t emphasize lip lines or dry spot and it wears super well.
Highly, highly recommend!
2. Julep It’s Whipped in Amore
I had been eyeing this product since December (that’s 7 months), but never bought it because I wasn’t sure about how bright it would be and typically Julep’s online lip swatches are… not great. Julep recently sent this to me, and I was so excited to test this out!
I love this. It’s bright and perfect and totally amazing. I wear this on sunny days, or on days where I’m just sitting at home blogging. This is a liquid lipstick, but it is really not transfer proof. It comes off on everything- coffee cups, napkins, and anything else. That isn’t a deal breaker for me, because I adore the color.
3. Kiko Milano Velvet Passion lipstick in 303
I though I’d include a more wearable bright, which is this peach coral. The formula is a little finicky, and I recommend exfoliating your lips before applying because it will latch onto any dry patches. However, it’s super easy to apply and I love the shape of the bullet (very similar to the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution).
The shade is a perfect summery nude, and best to wear with some on trend peach eyeshadows. This is also the cheapest lipstick on this list at $12.
4. Julep It’s Balm in Flamingo Pink
This was my first bright lipstick I ever bought and it defined what a confidence color was for me. I wear this all the time at home, just around the house in the summer because it makes me feel great. This lipstick comes with a hydrating core in the middle, so it’s super moisturizing and easy to wear.
It’s still not transfer proof, but it’s a balm so that’s expected. I highly recommend this color (or really any shade from this line).
5. Burberry Full Kisses in 531- Lilac
This is a fairly new purchase for me, and I really like it. It’s not really a pink, I think it’s more of a purple toned lipstick and it’s super flattering on my skin tone. It’s also quite balm like so it’s not really long wearing but I love the way it feels on my lips and I really love the shade.
And of course, it’s Burberry so the packaging is stunning as well.
6. Julep lip gloss in Posh
The Julep lip glosses are my ultimate favorite lip glosses. They’re so moisturizing, sometimes I apply them in place of a lip balm and they make my lips look plump and full. Posh is a raspberry shade that looks almost black in the container, but blended out on my lips it looks perfect. My favorite shade from this line is Radiant, which is a little lighter than this and limited edition. Fortunately, this gloss isn’t limited edition.
So those are my picks for summer! What’s your favorite lipstick to wear in the summertime?
