The best natural highlighters

Blog, The Bella Edit

Ciao!

I love highlighters a lot. However, I don’t wear bold highlighters (*cough* BECCA champagne pop *cough*) often, and especially when I’m running late or on doing my makeup in a rush, I don’t have time to blend out a super shocking highlight.

I also wear mostly natural makeup, so these are my favorite highlights I wear on a daily basis for a glowing face. None of these have glitter in them either, which is great!

Quick note: all of these are natural highlights, so they tend to look fairly similar on the face. I would recommend looking through this list and picking one (some of these are palettes if you really want more options) that suits you.

Enjoy!

Pre and post travel skincare

Blog, The Bella Edit

Ciao!

So this summer, I’ve been doing aย ton of traveling. And despite my best attempts, my skin showed it. I have combination skin with incredibly oily eyelids, slightly oily nose, and a dry rest of the face. With all of the traveling I’ve been doing, I break out on my nose and the rest of my face feels like all of the moisture has been sucked out.

I actually had the idea for this post when I arrived home after a long flight and could barely keep my eyes open. In my sleep deprived state, I decided it’d be a great idea to recommend what I was using to everyone else. I can’t remember exactly what I put on that night, but here’s a bunch of things I think would be great!

So here’s a list of my skin care recommendations for travel. This is all for plane flights because I find my skin takes the hardest hit from those. Enjoy! Keep reading

How to repair/repress a broken powder

Blog, The Bella Edit

This was so not a post I wanted to make.

I’d seen post like this floating around the beauty world (mostly on Instagram), and each time I’d thought something along the lines of this: Okay, that’s good to know but I never want to have to use it.

I mean who purposely breaks their makeup?

These people. Ok seriously, check out that YouTube channel, it’s super cool and they have a video specifically on BECCA champagne pop here.

Anyways, I was taking photos of the BECCA highlighters I own which are champagne pop and the two highlighters from the BECCA x Chrissy Teigen palette (review here). I had just finished and was carrying them back inside when I noticed that the cover of the BECCA x Chrissy palette has a sort of sticky surface where the BECCA compact would stick to top of the palette.

I began to tilt the palette to see if the compact would stay on top, and it did- for like two seconds. It crashed to the floor and product spilled everywhere. I had a moment of silence for my poor $38 compact, then used a fan brush to sweep all of the broken pieces into the compact. I didn’t lose too much product, but my floor had shimmery marks on it for the rest of the day.

6 Bold Lipsticks for Summer

Blog, The Bella Edit

Ciao!

I never wear bold lipsticks on an everyday basis. My idea of a bold everyday lipstick is like a dark brown. Seriously.

But in the summer? I love wearing super bright shades, deeper shades, and all of the unwearable shades in my collection. Part of the reason is I don’t always want to put on a full face of makeup in the summer, so all I have to do is swipe on a bright lipstick (and maybe some mascara) and my face instantly looks more made up.

I also consider bright lipsticks to be my “confidence colors” or the colors I instantly feel better in. I love nude lipsticks, but nothing can ever replace the feeling of applying a shocking bright pink.

Read on to see my ultimate summer shades!

The search for the perfect red: Rimmel London

Ciao!

I’m back with another batch of red lipsticks to test out.

For this test I tried a few reds from the Kate Moss lasting finish collection as well as two shades from the Only 1 matte collection.

From Kate Moss I tested 111, 107, 110 (creative names, right?).

From the only 1 matte, I tried 500- Take the stage and 120- Call the shots.

Let’s take a look!

The search for the perfect red: L’oreal

Blog, The Bella Edit

Ciao! This time in my search for the perfect red lipstick, I though I’d check out what L’oreal has to offer. Once again, I’m judging these lipsticks by the criteria listed in this post.

From L’oreal I tested out three shades from their Color Riche line (I tried 297- Red Passion, 317- Ruby Flame, and 350- British red).

The search for the perfect red: NYX

Blog, The Bella Edit

Ciao!

The first brand I searched for my perfect red lipstick was NYX, a brand that I’ve enjoyed in the past. I checked out shades from their soft matte lip cream line as well as the lip suede line. I’ve tried the soft matte lip cream before, but the lip suede is new to me. From the soft matte lip cream line, I’m looking at Amsterdam and Monte Carlo, and from the lip suede line I’m checking out Cherry Skies and Kitten ย Heels.

I talked about the criteria I was going to be weighing the lipsticks by in this post, so I’ll go through by eachย category and talk about what I think of each lipstick. Keep reading

The search for the perfect red

Blog, The Bella Edit

Ciao!

For the next few weeks on The Bella Edit, I’ll be documenting my search for the perfect red lipstick. I’ll be looking at brands from the drugstore as well as high end brands to find the red I think is truly perfect for me. I’ll be weighing the candidates on the merits of cost, packaging, scent, ease of application, shade, formula, pigment, wear time, and whether the item is limited edition. I hope you enjoy it!
