Anastasia Beverly Hills Prism vs Subculture

Blog, The dupe test

Ciao!

So I got the change to compare two nearly untouched Anastasia Beverly Hills palettes– the highly controversial Subculture and the very new Prism. Thanks again to Melissa Korn again for letting me play with some of her palettes!

There were two things I was curious about regarding the two new palettes. First, I wanted to know if ABH changed the formula between the two palettes because of the backlash from Subculture. Second, I’m sure I’m not the only person who noticed how similar the two palettes were. One thing to note is that Prism was released with the holiday collection and is limited edition. If it interests you, pick it up quickly!

Let’s check it out!

Urban Decay Nooner vs Kiko Milano 46

Blog, The dupe test

Ciao!

Nooner from the Naked 3 palette is one of my favorite shades of all time, let alone my favorite shade from the Naked 3 palette. I love a great taupe eyeshadow and a rosy taupe is even better! However, I recently bought a couple of eyeshadows from Kiko Milano (one was reviewed here) and I noticed that one of the shades from the Wet and Dry line in the color 46 seemed very similar to nooner. As soon as I got home, I tested both eyeshadows to see if they had any similarities.

Let’s check it out!

7 dupes for the Naked Heat palette

Blog, The dupe test

Ciao!

So the Naked Heat palette came out in the middle of June and naturally people freaked out. It was the first Naked palette in 2 years, and they hype was crazy for it. I really wanted it at first. Then I read this post from the Anti Haul blog that cut through all the noise and I decided I didn’t need it…right now.

I was however interested in the colors featured in the palette. Would warm bronzes look good on me? Would I like them? Is this a trend I want to follow?

I wasn’t sure, so I decided to look through my collection for similar shades and look a little online for some close dupes.

A quick note about this post: none of these are exactly the same as the Naked Heat as I do not own it and have not swatched. I also don’t own most of the dupes I’m suggesting. However, if you’re looking to try similar shades at a lower price, this is a good post for you. For comparison swatches, I’m using this post by The Anna Edit.

Glossier Invisible Shield vs Julep No Excuses

Blog, The dupe test

Ciao!

First, let me explain the thought process behind this.

Yes, I would agree that sunscreen is a pretty hard thing to find a dupe for. All sunscreens either work- or they don’t and for most people that’s all that matters.

However in this case, it’s less of a dupe and more of a one-of-these-is-cheaper-and-much-better.

Much better.

L’oreal Lash Paradise vs Too Faced Better than Sex

Blog, The dupe test

I know I’m not the first beauty blogger to make this post (not by a long shot).

But I was really curious. After all, as a drugstore mascara skeptic, could this $10 mascara really replace the $23 icon?

Or maybe it was just a bunch of people saying “eh, it’s close enough.”

Either way, I was curious. BTS has been my go to mascara for full black lashes for a while now (I got it over the holidays), which was partly why I got Lash Paradise. I like to switch out my mascara after 6 months or so and I don’t like to have a ton of different mascaras open at one time.

So while I was still in the states, I searched for it at the drugstore.

No luck.

In Whistler (this was actually released in Canada first), I ran from drugstore to drugstore trying to figure out where I could find this.

In the end, I found it at a drugstore where the display for Lash Paradise was placed below a display for Maybeline Baby Lips. It wasn’t until my second visit to that store that I saw it. When I did, I grabbed it in the shade 200 Blackest Black, and bought it.

Would it measure up to the cult favorite Better Than Sex mascara? I was about to find out.
