I’ve been following all of the new Fenty Beauty releases, but thus far there hasn’t been anything I’ve wanted to try myself. I talked about my opinions on the products that had come out thus far in this post on the Galaxy palette.
I do want to mention that just because those products don’t work for me, doesn’t mean I don’t like them. The famous foundation would be terrible for my (mostly) dry skin, but I couldn’t support the shade range more.
But these lipsticks? These work for me. I love lipsticks and really don’t need any excuses to buy more than I have, but I think I’m in love with them.
Let’s check out some swatches!
Can I just mention how much I love these names? M’damn is my favorite. Also this set of colors looks like someone took Colourpop Yes Please! palette and made it into lipsticks
M’damn is a beautiful red. I don’t wear red lipstick enough to justify getting this, but I want it. If you loved the liquid lipstick in uncensored, this is basically a solid lipstick of the same shade.
Spanked is a dusty dark rose.
Candy venom reminds me of the Too Faced melted matte in it’s happening. It’s a bold, bright, fuchsia.
Saw-c has a great name, but nothing else about the lipstick appeals to me. It’s a bright orange.
Up 2 no good is a peachy shade that on my pigmented lips would definitely look like I applied concealer. Pass for me.
S1ngle is my favorite (of course). It’s a warm nude that’s so pretty.
Freckle fiesta is an orange brown.
Shawty is a deep brown that would complete a 90s grunge look.
This set of lipsticks is not for the faint of heart!
PMS is also my favorite name, but I would never wear it. It’s a dark, deep, brown.
Midnight wasabi is a dark green. It’s be really fun to wear this, but I don’t think I’ll be picking it up because it’s such an unconventional color.
Ya dig?! is a pretty periwinkle blue that would clownish on me, but could be really pretty on someone with paler lips.
Clapback is a dark denim. It’s the one Rihanna is wearing in the display image, and I really wish I could pull it off like she does.
One of the Boyz is a lavender. If I were to get any of the stranger colors, I would get this because I love purple.
Griselda is a plum brown shade.
The formula of these lipsticks is so, so, creamy. Matte lipsticks are often on the drier side, which is why I was shocked when I watched these. They’re true matte with a lovely full coverage color. All of the above swatches had only one swipe of the lipstick– that’s how pigmented they are. They glided onto my hands smoothly. The formula is also comparable to the Hourglass Confessional lipsticks (swatches here), just these are matte.
The only downside I can think of is the price. Like the Glossier generation Z lipsticks (swatches here), these are small bullets with small amounts of product. The Fenty Beauty lipsticks come with .06 oz of product for $18, making them $300/oz. The Glossier lipsticks are .07oz of product for the same price, making them $257/oz. Neither of those even come close to the Hourglass lipsticks ($34 for .03 oz is $1,133/oz), but it’s still expensive when compared to other lipsticks, such as the Urban Decay Vice lipsticks ($154/oz), Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipsticks (review here) which are $173/oz, or the Tarte Colour Splash lipsticks ($175/oz).
Essentially, these lipsticks are expensive for the amount of product they get. However, $18 isn’t extremely pricy when it comes to lipsticks, so I think it can be justified.
Also these are awesome. Whether you want a nude or a bright, there’s something for everyone in this line.
