September favorites

Blog, Favorites

This September, I’ve been reaching into the depths of my makeup stash as I get back into my everyday routine. I’ve been reaching for subtler makeup that looks a little more natural. I’ve found some of my lost favorites in my collection, and I’ve been using things I haven’t reached for in a while.

This past week, I’ve experimented with only using a set amount of makeup (lipstick aside) because I rearranged my makeup area. 2/3s of the products in this post were at my desk this past week.

I’ve been also moving back into my matte liquid lipsticks. I thought I was completely over this trend in the spring, but now I’m loving them much more!

Keep reading to see what I’ve been loving!

1. Julep Feels Like Velvet eye duo Champagne and Caviar and Eyeshadow 101 Taupe shimmer

This was actually one of the first makeup tutorials I ever watched (you can see it here) which showcased this look. I used to use this palette a ton about a year and a half ago (I’m pretty close to hitting pan on it) and now I’ve gotten back into it. I use the pink shade all over the lid, with the brown shade in the corner of my eye. Then I apply the shadow stick in a v shape on the outer corner of my eye. Sometimes I put the Kiko Milano wet and dry shadow in 46 (also made it into a favorites post) into the crease.

I love the eye duo because it’s a beautiful formula and the shades are perfect for me. The pink shade has a great amount of pigment and the brown shade isn’t so shimmery that I can’t use it in the crease of my eye or the corner. I love the eyeshadow 101 because it’s a cream shadow. I can apply it to the corner of my eye, or sometimes I apply it all over if I’m in a rush and the just blend it with my fingers. It’s also has incredible staying powder.

2. The Body Shop matcha tea mask {review}

love this. I’ve had a ton of face masks to try out lately, but lately I’ve only been using this. The packaging is elegant and sturdy, and the product inside is amazing. This makes my skin perfectly clear, though sometimes it makes my skin a little red, so I recommend using it the morning before an event, not right before. Its got little particles in it so it’s very exfoliating when I remove it. Overall, I highly recommend this.

3. Too Faced Melted Matte lipstick in Queen B

This September, I’ve really been loving my matte liquid lipsticks! I’d moved away from them last spring, but now I’ve been wearing more lipsticks that I don’t have to reapply as often. I particularly like this one, because the color is a stunning dusty mauve (see a swatch here). It also lasts so long! I ate breakfast, then went to go reapply it only to find that I didn’t need to! It’s also isn’t that drying, which is great because I don’t have much patience for things that dry/sting my lips.

4. Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in seduce

I mentioned the Amazonian clay blush in paaarty in my July Favorites, so clearly I love this formula! I have seduce in a full size, and I’ve just remembered how much I enjoy using this shade. It’s a rosy nude that looks completely natural on my skin tone. I struggle with finding blush that doesn’t look unnatural on my face. This is truly my perfect blush shade that goes with any look.

5. BECCA First Light Priming Filter

I’m almost halfway through this primer, because I’ve been using it so much! The purple tint is meant to brighten my face, while having an illuminating effect. It makes my face look much more awake (this is highly important when I’m getting ready at 6am) and gives me a dewy look. Even after applying concealer (I’ve been using the RMS un-cover up) and setting with powder (mostly the Kat Von D setting powder) my face still looks like it’s glowing.

That’s all I’ve been loving this month! I just received my Too Faced Just Peachy mattes palette, so I’m really looking forward to playing with that this coming month.

Ciao bella!
