Julep Insta Filter Powder review

Makeup Reviews, Reviews

Ciao!

This powder launched in the same collection as the Cushion Complexion (review here) and the illuminating and mattifying primers way back in May/June. This was actually the first thing I received from the collection, and at first I was a little wary of it. I’ve seen many pictures of white setting powders and flash photography together (hint: it doesn’t go well).

I finally got around to testing as I went into summer and less willing to do a full face of makeup. Plus, my only other powder was loose and as I’ve learned before, traveling with loose powders is messy and a general bad idea.

So I brought this powder and the matching Julep foundation all throughout Italy, New York, and all the other places I visited this summer. I’ve been using it so much that I’ve got a pretty big dip in the pan now!

Pre and post travel skincare

Blog, The Bella Edit

Ciao!

So this summer, I’ve been doing a ton of traveling. And despite my best attempts, my skin showed it. I have combination skin with incredibly oily eyelids, slightly oily nose, and a dry rest of the face. With all of the traveling I’ve been doing, I break out on my nose and the rest of my face feels like all of the moisture has been sucked out.

I actually had the idea for this post when I arrived home after a long flight and could barely keep my eyes open. In my sleep deprived state, I decided it’d be a great idea to recommend what I was using to everyone else. I can’t remember exactly what I put on that night, but here’s a bunch of things I think would be great!

So here’s a list of my skin care recommendations for travel. This is all for plane flights because I find my skin takes the hardest hit from those. Enjoy! Keep reading

Julep what your skin needs restorative face milk

Reviews, Skincare reviews

Ciao!

When I first got this, my reaction was sort of “what do I do with this?”

Full disclosure: I received this as a gift from Julep and I never intended to buy it. So when I got it, I was a little confused. I had no idea what a face milk was and I don’t know how I was supposed to use it. I’d always assumed face milks were either like toners (another mystery), or had anti aging purposes not intended for my skin.

Does it go under makeup? Does it work as a moisturizer? Does it clear my skin? Does it hydrate it? Keep reading to find out exactly what this does and what I thought of it!

July Favorites

Blog, Favorites

Ciao!

When I went to organize the products for this post, it literally took me five seconds. All of these products I’ve been using non stop throughout July and I’ve loved them. A few are new to me and I’ve recently got in the last month and the rest are products I’ve had sitting in my collection and have only started to use them this month.

Julep Cushion Complexion review

Makeup Reviews, Reviews

Ciao!

I bought this the day it launched which is something I’ve never done before. I’d been so excited about this from when I first saw it teased back in November. I love how Julep used online surveys of what women are looking for in a foundation and what shades women were looking for. As far as I know, no other brand does this and I find it super helpful that Julep does.

I was so impressed with how I was able to pick my perfect foundation shade on my first try using only their resources online. The thing that was so different then the swatches other brands provide was that Julep had women matched to each shade. So instead of looking at a pure swatch and wondering how that would match my skin, I found it much easier to look at a woman and say “I’m darker than her,” or “I’m lighter than her.” This is only available here on the Julep website, not on Ulta.

After I purchased my perfect shade (120 Linen) and used it for a few months, I was sent some PR from julep including a few things from their new complexion collection. That means that I have a fair amount of shades from this line that I wouldn’t have purchased simply because they don’t match my skin. As always, all opinions are my own and for clarification, this post is not sponsored.

My favorite lipsticks

Blog, Favorites

Ciao!

In honor of national lipstick day, I’ve compiled a list of my top lipsticks of all time. All of these will be either traditional bullet lipsticks or liquid lipsticks and I’ll include lip swatches for each one.

This list goes from #7 on the list to #1 with two honorable mentions. Keep in mind that all of these are favorites and it was very hard to put them in an order!

The matchup: Purple monochromatic makeup

Blog, The Matchup

Ciao!

Unlike my last post that featured mauve makeup, this will be showcasing a more purple-grey look. In this post, I’ll be using the following thing:

  • The shades pearlthistle, and nightingale from the Julep flights of fancy palette in Solstice
  • The Urban Decay primer potion in original
  • The Kiko Milano smart eyeshadow in 08
  • The Julep gel eyeliner in radiant amethyst
  • The Bite Beauty amuse bouche lipstick in cava

Keep reading to learn how to get what I call a “sunset” look. The latest trend is also called sunset eyes (see a great tutorial here) but it draws inspiration from a sunrise. The shades used include hot pink, red, orange, and yellow, shades you see in the morning. My look is more subtle, drawing colors from a sunset- dusty blue and greyish purple.

Julep love your bare face oil review

Reviews, Skincare reviews

Ciao!

This was my first ever cleanser. Of course, I loved it when I first got it, but the real miracle is that I still really like it two years later. There’s not many things that I can officially say I’ve liked for over a year or for over two years, simply because my taste in makeup has changed so much.

Two years ago, my daily makeup included a shockingly white eyeshadow swiped all over the lid, a highlighter brushed onto my cheekbones and my temples, a clumpy brown mascara, and lip balm. Now, I don’t like or use all of those products and have removed them from my collection, keeping them only for sentimental reasons (except the mascara).

6 Bold Lipsticks for Summer

Blog, The Bella Edit

Ciao!

I never wear bold lipsticks on an everyday basis. My idea of a bold everyday lipstick is like a dark brown. Seriously.

But in the summer? I love wearing super bright shades, deeper shades, and all of the unwearable shades in my collection. Part of the reason is I don’t always want to put on a full face of makeup in the summer, so all I have to do is swipe on a bright lipstick (and maybe some mascara) and my face instantly looks more made up.

I also consider bright lipsticks to be my “confidence colors” or the colors I instantly feel better in. I love nude lipsticks, but nothing can ever replace the feeling of applying a shocking bright pink.

Glossier Invisible Shield vs Julep No Excuses

Blog, The dupe test

Ciao!

First, let me explain the thought process behind this.

Yes, I would agree that sunscreen is a pretty hard thing to find a dupe for. All sunscreens either work- or they don’t and for most people that’s all that matters.

However in this case, it’s less of a dupe and more of a one-of-these-is-cheaper-and-much-better.

Much better.
