I love face masks. Like really, I do at least one mask a week (sometimes 2 or 3) and I’ll watch YouTube while I do it if I want to relax or sometimes I’ll just use purely for skin care and do work while I have it on. Like this morning, I wrote a blog post while wearing this mask.
Last weekend, I was disappointed to know that the Lush near me (my usual stop for face masks) had closed, so I turned around and went to the body shop. I’d seen this mask advertised by Zoella on Instagram, and it was in the window at the body shop, so I went to check it out.
The Body Shop has a whole new line of face masks including one with Himalayan Charcoal, British Rose, Ethiopian Honey, Chinese Ginseng and Rice, and Amazonian Acai. I promised myself I wouldn’t get the Charcoal mask because I have far too many masks with charcoal or mud in them. The Acai one worried me slightly because of how it promised to “energize my face” through natural caffeine, and the ginseng and rice one was more meant for nourishment. It also had sesame oil in it, which my brother is allergic to. I ruled the honey one out because it wasn’t exciting enough and narrowed it down to this mask and the British rose.
Finally I decided that exfoliating and clarifying mask was probably meant for me (and Zoella liked it so…) and I bought it. The Body Shop also recently launched a mask brush for it that was available too. I didn’t get it, but now I wish I did because I loving giving myself a facial like experience at home. I also love The Body Shop’s makeup brushes in general (and they’re cruelty free!), so I can vouch for the quality.
But did I make the right decision in getting a highly advertised, hyped up face mask?
The packaging is the same as all of the other new masks, as well as some of their other face products. The base of the container is glass, while the top is made of a black plastic similar to Lush products. This packaging is quite sturdy and nice looking, which I appreciate!
As of the time I’m writing this post, I’ve used this four times and have already formed my opinion. I love it.
The first time threw me off slightly because it tingled my skin, but afterwards I got used to that. It goes on with a cooling sensation, which then transforms into an almost electric feeling. It’s got little particles in it which exfoliates my skin as I wipe it off.
The mask itself has an incredibly smooth texture and it feels luxurious as I apply it. I really think that everyone should own at least one face mask of their choosing for either important occasions or a weekly relaxation. Putting a face mask on makes me feel special, partly because when I put it on I know I won’t have to go anywhere for at least 20 minutes.
This mask is specifically meant to combat pollution, deeply purify and protect skin, all things I though would be good for my skin. I’m not sure how to measure the pollution aspect, but I can say that my skin looked immediately improved after I took it off. I did have one small pimple that looked a little more red after I took it off, but within an hour it had almost completely disappeared. So if you buy this, I’d recommend using it the morning before an important event, not directly before.
I typically apply face masks for 20 minutes, but I got very lazy with this one. The first time, I set a timer and then stayed in bed watching YouTube long after it went off. The next time, I set no timer and left it on for about an hour. The third time, I left it on for about half an hour, and the fourth time I stuck to 20 minutes.
All of the times I felt my skin looked refreshed and clean after (though an hour isn’t a reasonable amount of time to be wearing a face mask for). The mask is absorbed into my skin over time, so even if you put on a lot, most of it will have sunk into your skin by the time you take it off.
The scent is also amazing. It doesn’t smell like green tea, but more like dandelion which is one of the main ingredients.
Overall, I’m super happy with my purchase here. I’m loving this mask, and I’ve actually ordered samples of the other masks on the body shop website (they’re running a buy 2 get 1 free promo on their mask samples) to see if any other masks are winners too. I recommend this for anyone trying to clear or refresh their skin and protect it from pollution. It’s truly an amazing mask that I’m reaching for over and over because of how great it is.
Quick thing I want to mention! The Body Shop has taken an initiative to get 8 million signatures on their petition to bring a worldwide ban on animal testing to bring to the UN general assembly in 2018. The Body Shop has a long history of being a pioneer in the world of speaking out against animal cruelty. You can sign the petition and read more about it here!
